What is Special Education?

Special Education is specialty designed instruction delivered through an environment that is appropriate for the child's needs. To receive special education services, a child must meet criteria defined by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and the IDEIA of 2004 (Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004).

Within Special Education, students receive instructional and related services/interventions at all levels from preschool (ECSE) through completion of secondary education, or until transition to adult services.
