I am originally from Jamaica, and am currently in my eleventh year of teaching and excited to continue to be a part of the Manara family, now entering their seventh year!! I have been at Manara since the start of the school and could imagine no place else to call my home away from home! I am certified to teach in the state of Georgia and Texas and hold a Masters of Arts degree in Elementary Ed. (K-6) from Western Governors University, Utah, and a Bachelors of Arts degree in Child and Family Development from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, NC. I also hold a Diploma in Teaching, Early Childhood Education from Shortwood Teachers College, Jamaica. I am a mother of three and very interested in how children learn. I enjoy children and watching the "Aha" moments on their faces when they discover something new or learn something for the first time! This is what makes teaching rewarding for me. My teaching experience is mostly in Kindergarten and First grade with children from diverse ethnic backgrounds. Two of my first years teaching were spent in Jamaica in an international school where I taught children from many different ethnic backgrounds, including students from Ecuador, Asia, the Middle East, and France. Most recently I taught children from diverse family backgrounds at Amana Academy, writing and implementing thematic, experiential based curriculum and am interested in integrating multicultural education into curriculum. My goal for my students this year is to harness their curiosity and build in them a strong self- motivation to become life -long learners. My personal motto is, “With hard work, determination, an open mind and compassion for those around . . . our possibilities are endless!!”
